Fix-it-Friday is a passion project I manage that helps the community and aims to limit textile waste. For six hours each friday from 2018-2020, my team and I volunteered by mending clothes for the community on University of Nebraska - Lincoln's campus. Mending items allowed fellow members of the community the opportunity to use their products for longer. This limits the amount of textiles the community throws away, and raises the morale of everyone involved. My team and I furthered our impact by hosting events on campus teaching basic sewing skills necessary for minor mending projects. These events were majorly successful with consistently large turnouts achieved through online and word-of-mouth promotion. Fix-it-Friday continues to grow as a fixture of the community and will continue to be for years to come.
